As soon as we saw Agnes waiting for us in the hotel lobby we knew we were going to have a great day. She is so smart, funny, and personable. She made us feel so comfortable as if we were long lost friends and she was eager to show us where she lived. As we moved around the city, it was obvious how well regarded Agnes is; many locals came up to greet her warmly, especially at the market and the youth organization in Kliptown. She has a wealth of historical and factual information at her fingertips but what makes her so special is her willingness to put that historical information in context with her personal experience growing up in Johannesburg during the apartheid years. The best part of traveling is when you can connect with someone from a different part of the world than your own. And, with Agnes, you get the benefit of her kindness and intelligence.

I am ex South African and was extremely satisfied with the tour for my family of 4 and would highly recommend them. Rudie was our tour guide for the day and he establishes a comfortable rapport and spending time with him was enjoyable. Agnes (his wife) also does tours and I am sure she is equally great.

We also went to an elephant sanctuary and got up close and personal with the beautiful creatures. They even drove us to Tambuti Lodge in Pilanesberg for a three day safari and came back to pick us up. The atmosphere was comfortable as if we had been long time friends and we had many delightful conversations with them both. We dined with them in their home in addition to joining them at a local restaurant with friends and family. They were most accommodating to maximize the limited time we had. We had the guesthouse all to ourselves which had lovely accommodations. Overall we would go back and stay with Agnes and Rudie should we find ourselves back in South Africa.
