We went on two tours with Agnes in December 2019: on the first day Sterkfontein Caves + Voortrekker Monument + Pretoria and, on the second day, Soweto and Nelson Mandela's... read more House. We had limited time, so we asked Agnes to arrange something for us in line with what we most wanted to see.
Agnes was a great guide. She explained the attractions and sites to us from an historical, factual perspective, but also we had great chats about life in South Africa in general.
Agnes was extremely friendly. When she dropped us off at the airport for our flight home, we were having such a good time that we really didn't want our holiday to end. We can recommend Agnes with absolutely no hesitation. The places that we visited were great and Agnes was excellent company as we drove around for several hours on both days.
A few practical tips:
- Nelson Mandela's house is small and they offer an official tour that lasts for about 15-20 minutes. There's no need to spend too much time there. Outside there are shops and restaurants.
- The Voortrekker Monument offers a great view of Pretoria. You could spend hours here if you're interested in the history and want to read about all the exhibits. Otherwise, 60 minutes should suffice.
- The Union Building at Pretoria has a giant statue of Nelson Mandela - great for photos.
- The tour of Soweto was really informative. We visited many different parts, ranging from a rich suburb called Beverly Hills to a much poorer area where we were able to visit a local family. This is something that many travellers do not experience.
The Johannesburg/Pretoria area has a lot of different attractions, and a tour with Agnes is a great way to get around the region easily and quickly to visit the various sites.
